The Westport Historical Society celebrates and commemorates the 19th Century when Americans journeyed West to chase their dream. Many chose the town of Westport as the point where they "jumped off" onto the trails and into the great American Wilderness. We are a Freedom's Frontier Star Partner & Part of The Historic Santa Fe Trail!
1855 HARRIS-KEARNEY HOUSE MUSEUM WELCOMES KC ARTIST KATHERINE KROUSE
The museum is pleased to welcome the first visiting artist of 2014 to the recently-renovated upstairs art gallery.
Katherine Krouse Kansas City artist is a realist painter who celebrates Kansas City by using rich color and texture, inspired by her eye condition known as Stargardt’s Disease. This disease effects the way her retinas process light. Her eyes interpret light values significantly brighter, and dark values significantly darker. This naturally makes its way into her artwork as she communicates how she sees her changing world. Her condition is somewhat disabling, as she can no longer drive. Instead, she now makes use of public transportation, which inspires her to focus on a pedestrian’s perspective of urban city scenes. To emphasize contrasting light, she often looks to the Impressionists and Post Impressionists.
“My world is beautiful,” Krouse said in an interview, “It is just different…It is a gift to continuously and publicly communicate how I see the world.”
Krouse’s work will be on display from March 5- March 29, during regular museum hours, Wednesday-Saturday, from 1-5 pm. Admission to the gallery is free.
