Native American Chief to Visit Westport

October 1, 2019

The Westport Historical Society

                        and the

1855 Harris-Kearney House Museum

4000 Baltimore, Kansas City, Missouri

Please join us for a reception, on Saturday, October 12, 2019, from 2 pm to 4 pm at the museum, honoring Kansas City artist Karen White. The 1855 Harris-Kearney House is proud to showcase some of Ms. White’s stunning portraits of Native Americans. Her works of art tell stories, illuminate history, and depict emotions that capture a moment in time.   You will be delighted with the delicate beauty in the faces of strong people.

As a special guest, we welcome Glenna J. Wallace, Chief of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma.  She is the first woman ever elected to this office. Chief Wallace will speak about Shawnee Chief Tecumseh and his brother, the Prophet; the Shawnee movement into Missouri/Kansas; and update us on the present-day Shawnee tribe.

Guests will be able to view a special tomahawk, owned by the museum, which belonged to Tecumseh, Native American Chief of the Shawnee tribe and warrior who became the primary leader of a large, multi-tribal confederacy in the early 19th century.

Native American Flute music will be provided by Paul F. McMillian on hand-carved flutes.

Please RSVP to or 913-231-6749 by October 9, 2019.
