Presentation by Michael Busnell will follow.

Speaker Description:

Michael Bushnell moved from suburban Parkville to the Historic Northeast area of Kansas City in 1990. He was elected President of the Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood in 1993 and served in that capacity until 2001 (a position to which he was re-elected in 2005, serving through 2008).
In 1998 Michael and his wife Chris purchased The Northeast News, and trans-formed the lagging weekly “shopper” into a viable, award winning weekly journal of events in and around Kansas City’s urban core.
Since his move to the Scarritt neighborhood, Bushnell has been an avid collector of antique Kansas City postcards. What began as a side trip to a local antique store has turned into a passion for documenting Kansas City history through the use of old postcards. Tapping his vast collection of over 3,000 unduplicated views of old Kansas City, Bushnell began a column in his newspaper featuring a different postcard each week with a brief expla-nation of the card’s history, the view on the front of the card and any personal message written on the back of the card.
In 2003 Bushnell released his first book, Historic Post-cards of Old Kansas City, a 112 page coffee table book showcasing nearly 70 old Kansas City postcards. He has been a frequent guest lecturer at the Kansas City Museum as well as a guest on Walt Bodine’s show on KCUR Public radio in Kansas City. Bushnell has also been a frequent guest on Charles Feruzza’s Anything Goes show on KKFI Community
